First Camping of the Summer

{June 21st}

Brian's sister Cathey, her husband Brent, and Brian's brother Matt came to visit for the weekend.
We had a good time hanging out but really wanted to take them out hiking and camping.  We got out the door at a decent time Friday morning and headed up to Saint Mary's Glacier.
It's a pretty popular hiking spot but I had never been there before.
It's also a pretty easy/short hike so good for a quick route up to beautiful scenery.

Here is the lake with the glacier behind it.
Matt was loving every minute of the hike!

My little hiker!
He was so great about hiking in the backpack last summer but now that he is much more mobile and active he does not want to be in there.
He kept saying "All Done" so we would get him out and let him walk.
His favorite part is hunting for rocks.

Heading back down

We left the glacier and headed to our newest favorite camp spot.
It's a great place not too far from town and there is never anyone else around.
It was the perfect night for camping!  It was the longest day of the year so we had beautiful light until about 9pm.  It was also so calm out and not that cold.

Things went downhill when we got ready for bed around 9:30...
I was getting Braxton's pajamas on in the tent when he wiggled away and touched his hand on the top of a propane heater.
It was literally seconds but probably the worst moment of my life!!!
I'll save the horrible details but he burned the entire palm/all of his fingers.
Not ten minutes later both Brian and his brother started feeling sick and started puking.
I was trying to calm Braxton, Brian and Matt were sick, and Brent and Cathey were left to pack up the entire camp site in the dark by themselves.
We decided to take Nug to the ER since the burn was on his hand and after a few stops on the side of the highway, we made it to the hospital.
It was definitely a second degree burn that had blistered by the time we got there but luckily there was no sign of 3rd degree burn.
The doctor was awesome and felt confident that he wouldn't need any kind of intervening treatment and that it would heal up on its own in about a week or two.
We kept it covered for about 2 weeks until the new skin grew in and everything was pretty healed up.
(It was basically back to normal about a month after the accidend- so thankful!)
Even though things turned horrible, we still had a great time with Brent, Cathey and Matt and are so glad they came to visit!
