{June 1st}
We made our annual trip down to Sand Dunes National Park again this year.
The southwest part of the state had a super low year for snowfall so the creek we usually hang out in was not flowing this year. Several of our friends opted out of going but we still made it.
We got in Friday around lunch and set up camp. Instead of checking out the creek, we hiked up to Zapata Falls. We haven't been able to check them out in the years past because the creek running from the falls is usually too high and fast to cross (especially with small kids). One benefit to the low snow fall was that the creek was super low this year and we could hike all the way up to the base of the falls. It was a pretty easy/short hike up and falls were awesome! Everyone else had the same plan so it was a little crowded but the boys still loved it- especially Braxton. He had so much fun exploring around with his pal Emily.

Hanging out at camp for the night
We headed down to the dunes on Saturday morning to try them out. We opted out of renting one of their wooden sleds/boards again this year and we should've done it. We played around with some friends for a little while, but the sand started getting hot quickly, Braxton lost one of his shoes in the dunes somewhere, Grayson hated the backpack and Everett decided he was too tired to walk back to the car. We played a little but overall it was kind of a bust. Instead of entertaining the boys at camp all afternoon, we decided to just pack up quickly and head back Saturday after lunch.
Grayson was obsessed with our friends dog, Osha
The boys still had fun camping, but I don't think we will go back without the creek flowing again. Our day set up on the water pretty much makes the trip down there!
