San Antonio

{March 17th-21st} 

We booked a few days at the JW Marriott in San Antonio for spring break, and even though COVID was just starting to hit, we decided to go ahead and still take our trip.  Our neighbors down the street had randomly booked the exact same trip, at the same time, and we had the best time hanging out with them!

Since everything was just starting to close down, we didn't end up leaving the resort and doing the other things we had planned around the area.  It worked out just fine and we loved just playing at the pool each day.  We Also only had about 2 days where the restaurants closed down as well and we had to either do carry out or just order in food.  By our 3rd day there, so many people had left we practically had the resort to ourselves.  One night- it was literally just our 2 families closing down the pool at sunset!

Looking back to the craziness that came after, I'm so glad we took this little getaway.  Hoping to make it back again soon!

Everett is 6!

 {February 19th}

Another year has passed and this little peanut is 6!

He has been loving kindergarten this year.  We've had a few rough mornings with drop off but we have the most wonderful teachers and staff and he bounces back quickly.  He has made lots of new friends and has been great with his sight words and learning to read.

He is still our child that needs lots of sleep!  The full school day still wipes him out and he is exhausted by the time Friday rolls around.  He's hardest to wake in the mornings and still probably needs a good nap each week, although it rarely happens.

We had a fun birthday party at the Field House for him with his entire class.  Apparently everyone is down for an indoor birthday party on a Sunday in winter, ha.  It was so fun to see him interact with all his friends.

He lost his first tooth just before his bday!  He has been wiggling it for a couple weeks and was so proud when it finally came out.

We've had a harder time this winter with his emotions and him acting out.  We can definitely tell its more prevalent when he's tired, but we've had lots of battles lately and its been hard.  He doesn't show it or act this way at school.... just at home, so that is a good sign.  We think he might have anxiety about trying new things or things he isn't really good at yet, but he can't communicate how he's feeling and he just shuts down or acts out.  We signed him up for indoor ski lessons but it took 3 times before he would actually try it.  I cried the first lesson he actually did and was so dang proud of him!

After 2 trips up to the mountain where he refused to participate (or even put his snow pants on), he finally tried it with Brian and loved it!  He wasn't great at listening to Brians instructions, but he had so much fun and just wanted to go down over and over again.  It also probably helped that Braxton was in a lesson so he got one on one time with Brian.  We're hoping his enthusiasm carries over to next year and he is less hesitant in the beginning. 

He still refuses to wear pants or a coat.  There is no negotiating or bribing or forcing... so we just let him deal with the consequences.  He doesn't really complain about being cold so we just got with it.  

He has also become the pickiest eater lately!  All of a sudden he won't eat chicken, beef, any meat really, or cheese.  So that leaves bread, fruit, and some veggies. 

He loves Minecraft and has gotten so good at it!  He's also learned to play Ticket to Ride, which has been fun to play as a family.

He is still our snuggliest boy and I think physical touch must be one of his love languages.

Everett loves little things and is the collector of all the trinkets. He has a whole stash of random tchotchkes that he keeps in his treasure chest.

February Updates

Everett lost his first tooth!  It was wiggly for a good 10 days before it finally fell out.

Everett also had his first indoor ski lesson.  This was a big one because he had gotten super overwhelmed the first 2 times we went and shut down and refused to participate.  Somehow, he worked up courage this time and I may have cried happy tears I was so proud of him.

Annual kids free weekend in Steamboat.

We got several feet of snow over the 3 days and a great time with great friends.
